With the recent closure of Sears, and Herberger's impending closure, many are worried about the future of Rushmore Mall.

Commercial real estate broker Chris Long says online shopping is hurting the retail game. However, Rushmore Mall is not the only one feeling the effects of online shopping, it's everywhere.

Long says anchor stores such as Herberger's and Sears closing, are something malls across the nation are facing. He says the anchor stores aren't needing as much space for retail as they once needed.

"Across the country we are seeing malls being redeveloped," said Long. "They change from maybe an indoor mall to an outdoor mall, or a lifestyle center where there is more to do there than just shop...If all of those drive the traffic back to the mall, the small stores will stay because there is more traffic there."

A spokesperson for Rushmore Mall told us to expect a comment soon on how they are adapting.
