The US Air Force needs to grow and expand.

That's the word from former School of Mines president and current Secretary of the Air Force Dr. Heather Wilson.

Wilson laid out the plan for the future of the Air Force at the Air Force Association Conference in Maryland.

She said our dominance as a power is not a birthright, but is a choice, adding that new threats are emerging.

Wilson is promoting the idea of adding 75 squadrons to the Air Force, bringing it up to 386 active squadrons and says it's a choice we need to make.

Dr. Heather Wilson says, "But we have an obligation to tell our countrymen as those before us have done in their time what should be done, what must be done. To face the world as it is with a rapidly innovating adversary, the Air Force we need should have about 25 percent more operational squadrons in the 2025-2030 timeframe than the Air Force we have."

Wilson says as the Air Force grows, they will continue to work to make the Air Force we have now more ready and more lethal.
