RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - National Doctor's Day is Friday and to celebrate, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on the best and worst states for doctors in 2018.
South Dakota was ranked number one in the nation for best states for doctors and Nebraska was right behind at number two.
According to the study, South Dakota has the second highest average for annual wages for physicians adjusted for the cost of living, one of the lowest malpractice award payout amount per capita and least expensive annual malpractice liability insurance.
"One of the key reason it's a great place to practice for physicians is that we are a town of just 70,000 people, so it's easy to navigate around we got sunny skies, great schools unlimited recreational opportunities," Susan Weber, director of physicians at Regional Health Rapid City Hospital. "We also have a fabulous healing environments, hospitals and clinics to work in. Our Rapid city hospital has 417 beds and we're also level two trauma service."
North Dakota and Wyoming were both on the list as well, North Dakota is ranked number 9 and Wyoming is ranked number 10 .
