Vineyard Fire grows to 468 acres

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. (KEVN) - Update:
Fire officials says the Vineyard Fire is now estimated to be 468 acres.

The Vineyard Fire Public Information Officer Joe Johndreau says these estimates could change again once they are able to get a better count.

Earlier in the afternoon it was estimated to be around 250 acres.

Around 7 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, all evacuations in the area were lifted and remain lifted.

However, Fall River County Emergency Management says erratic fire behavior means people may be asked to evacuate again. They say keep bags packed and ready to go.

The fire is still at five percent containment.

Update at 2 p.m.:
Great Plains Fire says the Vineyard fire is now 250 acres in size.

It is currently 5 percent contained.

A Type 2 Incident Management Team has been ordered.

Original Story:
The Vineyard Fire grew to 180 acres overnight.

Great Plains Fire reports it grew 50 acres on the east side.

Firefighters focused on structure protection overnight. Additional resources are reporting to the fire today.

Fall River Road (Hwy 18/385) is open, but fire officials advise to stay away from this area if you have no need to be traveling that way.

Valley View Drive and Eagle Court are still under evacuation. No other areas have been added at this time.

The fire is still outside of city limits.

A red flag warning for the fire area was issued until Sunday night due to low humidity and expected gusty winds.

Information and resources are being provided by the Red Cross at the Mueller Civic Center.

The wildfire was reported around 4 p.m. Saturday night, located 1 mile east of Hot Springs on Highway 18.
