Twitter changing character limit

Twitter is changing from 140 characters per tweet, to 280 - on a trial basis.
The popular social media website announced yesterday that certain accounts will be able to tweet with twice as many characters as usual.
We spoke with a communication professor at Black Hills State University, and she says that this will lessen the difference between Twitter and Facebook. She also thinks the company might be doing this to lessen some of the sites negative attributes.
“I really feel that Twitter is trying to add more characters to maybe help people explain themselves better,” said Dr. Mary Caton-Rosser. “And yet, I wonder if it’ll just get worse, because people will say more.”
Of course, there is no minimum amount of characters you can use when tweeting.
