RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Democrats are pushing for an investigation after reports of first daughter Ivanka Trump exchanging hundreds of official government business emails using her personal email account.
Democrats on Capitol Hill want to know if Trump complied with the law.
The question Democrats want answered is if she violated the Presidential Records Act and Federal Records Act.
South Dakota Senator John Thune was in Rapid City touring Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He says he needs to know more information before he is comfortable moving forward and asking for an investigation.
“If you're somebody who is trafficking in a regular basis in classified information, if you have a security clearance that is such that you need to have that information protected, then obviously you don't want to be using a private email," says Thune.
Thune also says a lot of the data that people assume is confidential, isn't.
Hillary Clinton's use of a private e-mail server was a key talking point of President Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
