RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - The Pennington County Sheriff's Office posted the shocking results on social media, showing that drug arrests are on a startling upward trend.
Last week, they said they had made 158 felony arrests so far this year which is more than double the total of 78 by this point last year.
"It's all over Rapid City," Sgt. Taylor Sperle of the Pennington County Sheriffs Office said.
Sheriff's deputies believe the problem lies with large distributors bringing in more meth from Colorado and California.
Right now, the focus for the drug task force is to shut down the out of state distributors.
Sperle said, "With the meth specifically, it's a drug that's hard for people to get off of, so as time passes the more people that use it and get addicted, it's harder to get off that type of drug so obviously the numbers continue to rise."
