RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Together, with the school district, the YMCA acquired the former Black Hills Corporation building on 9th and Kansas City streets. Half of the building will be owned by the district but the other will be the Y.

The YMCA has already raised $5 million for renovations but seeks an additional $2 million from the city’s Vision Fund to finish the project. The Y applied for the vision fund money back in October.

With the new building the YMCA will expand their early learning program, bringing in another 160 kids along with training for caregivers. They will also be able to add more teens to the youth institute media technology program.

"We've put forward this one is very broad reaching. It has a profound impact on the city, on the school, on the Y's ability to serve the community and bottom line, helping the community itself," says Roger Gallimore, the executive director with the YMCA

The YMCA should hear back from the fund committee soon.
