HOT SPRINGS, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Tattoos and animals go together when it comes to raising money for a local animal shelter in Hot Springs. Three businesses teamed up for the Battle Mountain Humane Society Fundraiser, a no kill shelter.

Body Count Tattoos gave away discounted tattoos for $30, while Body Bliss Spa gave away discounted back rubs and WebWays Vape shop hosted a raffle table.

The tattoo shop saw 300 people walk through their doors and tattooed simple designs of a paw print with a heart or an outline of an animal. People also donated animal food and blankets.

What started out as a simple event turned into a fundraiser that bought people from Nebraska, Wyoming, and Spearfish.

"It's really touching the amount of people that have expressed interest and caring,” said Maria March, owner of Body Count Tattoos. “And it just turned into this huge event. It's amazing the people that have contacted us has been overwhelming."

100 percent of the proceeds and donations from all three businesses collected went to the shelter.
