A South Dakota Army National Guard unit will be deploying to the Middle East next summer. Detachment 1, Company B, 935th Aviation Support Battalion from Rapid City will begin a nine-month deployment in June.

Soldiers will help with maintenance and repair of Army rotary aircraft and avionics systems. Prior to deployment, the unit will go through training in Ford Hood, Texas.

This is the second deployment to the Middle East for the 28-member unit. The first deployment was in 2012-2013 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
