Roses forged in steel and love at the School of Mines

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA TV) - Want to get your significant other a rose that will last as long as your love? Then the School of Mines has just the gift for you.

Sparks were flying at the welding building on campus as students handcrafted steel roses in a variety of colors.

Anyone can purchase a steel rose at the Surbeck center for $40 a piece.

"It's definitely a good thing, we all kind of get buried in our books and don't really remember the holidays that are coming up. Valentine's Day is important so we are giving you that reminder so we will be in Surbeck so they can see us and be reminded about it too," says Kassidy Kitzmiller

Roses are also available on the website If the color you are interested in is sold out, they do update the site every Friday and will keep selling them throughout the spring. They hope to sell 200 roses. All proceeds benefit the American Welding Society, to keep the program running.
