Rapid City Fire Department is raising money for charity in fourth annual No Shave November fundraiser

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA TV) - No Shave November is here and our weekend anchor, Brent Wise, is taking part.

But he’s not the only one doing this, the Rapid City Fire Department is also joining in and they are doing it to help out a good cause.

Rapid City Firefighter and Paramedic, Robert Rendon, says “this year's we chose to go with Youth and Family Services as the recipient. Every year we pick a different program. We try to stay in the realm of gym equipment or some type of physical fitness program. So this year it's going to help them purchase some more gym equipment for the children in their program. We try to push a healthy lifestyle, healthy choices and that's the program we chose this year.”

Many of the firefighters shaved off their mustaches at the beginning of the month.

But they do have a dress code so they will not be growing out a beard but rather their mustaches so I guess you could said they are doing mo-vember.

This all started four years ago when the station seven crew was trying to find a way to do more in the community.

“It started out really small, we raised $500 dollars the first year. We've been fortunate every year, we've doubled what we have raised from the year before. Last year we raised $2000 dollars. That's our goal this year and hoping to double it again and stay with the trend that has been going on,” explains Rendon.

We will update you later this month with how the mustache growing process is going at the fire station and how much money they end up raising for this year's fundraiser.
