Rapid City Airport adds new destination

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Rapid City Regional Airport is adding to their destination list this summer.

Executive Director Patrick Dame announced Monday morning that starting on June 23, United Airlines will offer non-stop service to the Newark Liberty International Airport through Rapid City Regional Airport.

Newark is 15 miles southwest of New York City, and 60 miles northeast of Philadelphia.

The seasonal route will be offered on Saturdays only, until Sept. 8. But Dame hopes it could turn into a year-long service.

"Combined with New York, Philadelphia, and New Jersey, all of those are within driving distance of Newark," said Dame. "So this is going to be a great opportunity for those folks to come here on a tourism basis and also the rapid city regional folks to travel to a great destination out east."

The four hour flight will be aboard an aircraft that offers 76 seats, First Class, Economy seating, and wifi. Tickets are on sale now.
