Junior hockey league possibly skating toward the Black Hills

RAPID CITY S.D. (KOTA TV) - The Public Works Committee met Tuesday to discuss the possibility of bringing in a NA3HL team based out of Niagara Falls, New York.

The team is a North American Tier 3 Hockey League, which would be new to the region. The Tier 3 leagues and teams would aim to provide competitive opportunities for elite players right here in our neck of the woods.

If the team gets the approval to relocate, they will practice at the Roosevelt Ice Rink but some wonder if there's enough enthusiasm for current skaters and this new team.

"The times that they want to practice and have games are times that we don't have a lot of activity scheduled there. It works out very well for the city and very well for the league. There will be plenty of open times for the public," says Jeff Biegler the director of Rapid City Parks and Recreation.

The public works committee approved the motion, and on Monday night, the City Council will take a vote. If approved the team would come to Rapid City next fall.
