RAPID CITY, S.D (KOTA-TV) A man who is not letting his disability keep him down, received his first big check on Monday.

Shad has been growing rhubarb at Black Hills Works Hydroponic Gardens for a year now.

He uses a battery power water system bag that allows him to water the plants by himself.

Prairie Berry co-owner, Matt Keck, is honored to show Shad their gratitude for his hard work.

Keck says, "It's an honor for us at Prairie Berry to be able to buy this rhubarb... it's one of the reasons that we exist is to make an impact on the community and this is such a great example of how we can do that."

Shad has harvested 91 pounds of rhubarb so far this Spring.
