There will be a new attraction at the Buffalo Chip next August.

Besides the concerts and other festivities, a flat track motorcycle race will be new next year.

Demolition and construction on a new race track has already begun right next to the main stage at the buffalo chip.

AMA Pro Racing and Indian Motorcycle have partnered with the Sturgis Buffalo Chip to put on the event. It will take place on August 6th, with a concert being put on later that night.

The Buffalo Chip had a smaller scale flat–track race this year, which paved the way for the much bigger event, next rally.

"Last year we were fortunate to bring in something that became just colossal in nature," said Toni Woodruff of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. "It was the Rolling Sands Hooligan Flat–Track racing. And we had the Buffalo Chip Drag Strip racing right before it... and the enthusiasm that came. Our fans and customers really enjoyed [it]. Just being a part of that feeling and energy and the adrenaline. You could feel it rising and the crowd. We thought, 'we need to do more of this'."

They hope construction on the expanded race track will be wrapping up this spring.
