RAPID CITY S.D. (KOTA TV) - The children gathered this morning and had their pick between a wooden helicopter, whale, airplane or lion. Just like Santa's elves, these woodworkers will get started on next year's hand-carved toys in January.
The wood workers club began the service project more than 10 years ago. The non-tech gifts are a hit year after year.
"I think that you can see when the kids get their toys big smiles are on their face. It lights up their day. This is kind of the reason we do it every year just to see the reaction on the kids face," says Bob Buchanan the president of the Wood Workers Club.
The group made at least 3,000 toys breaking a record for the most they've ever made.
