Juvenile killed in Northern Hills snowmobile crash

DEADWOOD, S.D. (KOTA TV) - A juvenile from North Dakota died from injuries sustained in a snowmobile crash in Lawrence County Saturday. The juvenile died Sunday in Lead/Deadwood Regional Hospital.

The name, age and hometown of the crash victim is being withheld pending family notification; and at the request of the family.

According to a release from the county coroner, the crash was about 9:45 p.m. Saturday on South Dakota Snowmobile Trail 7; a half mile west of US Highway 385. The juvenile was a passenger on a snowmobile ridden by a family member.

Game, Fish and Parks rangers, highway patrol, Lead police and county sheriff’s office are investigating the crash.

This is the second deadly snowmobile crash this season in the Hills. In December, a Nebraska woman died when she veered off the trail and hit a rock near Spearfish Canyon. That was the first snowmobile-related death since 2009.
