Vandals have spray painted the Jimmy Carter statue in downtown Rapid City.

Using black spray paint, half the face of Jimmy Carter was covered. The statue can be found on the street corner of St. Joseph Street and Sixth Avenue. The graffiti was spotted this morning and Dallerie Davis, co-founder of the City of Presidents Foundation, believes that this was not a hate crime. As for the cleanup, these statues are also made out of bronze making them very durable and relatively simple to fix.

"Actually, it's really quick and easy. Once we know and the public is very good at letting us know right away when something is wrong. We contact a gentleman, Grant Standard, who has worked with the foundry and is very used to working with bronze. And, so within the very few minutes he can have the paint removed," said Davis.

The statue has now since been fixed.
