LAKE ANDES, S.D. (U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE) - A photo of a fox frozen in ice in Europe prompted the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service to bring back this photo of South Dakoata fishicles.
These frozen fish were spotted back in 2015 at Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge in South Dakota.
The lake level was low due to drought and oxygen levels were depleted leading to the death of most fish in the lake. They floated to the top of the lake and then froze.
The ice then expanded and buckled, pushing the frozen fish cubes up and out for all to see.
