Egg-tacular safety tips by RCFD

RAPID CITY S.D. (KOTA TV) - Throughout the months of October and November, the Fire and Life specialists head to all schools across the Rapid City Area School District. On Tuesday's agenda was the Black Hawk Elementary 2nd grade class.

The children got to watch a presentation about "EggBerta" who wears her helmet one day while riding her bike and makes it home safely but the second time "EggBerta" decides not to wear her helmet, she falls and cracks her shell open. This teaches students how protective gear may be annoying sometimes but it's there to keep you safe.

"Your head doesn't crack the same way but it's so impactful and memorable that hopefully they think twice before they ride their bikes without a helmet," says Monica Colby a Fire and Life Specialist with Rapid City Fire Department.

The children gasped and cried with EggBerta didn't wear her helmet and cracked her head so the Fire and Safety Specialists are pretty sure the important message hit home.
