RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - East Boulevard North will shut down starting Monday; raising the question, how will businesses survive with long-term construction outside their doors?
The South Dakota Department of Transportation reported the roadway between North Street and East North Street will be closed for three weeks due to city utility work.
The DOT didn't mention if the construction will be done in phases or all at once.
One East Boulevard business struggled in October when the same road was shut down for construction. The manager said sales decreased by around 16 percent due to customers not being aware if they were open.
The manager says communicating with customers is key during this setback.
Anna Chief, operations manager of Bread Root Natural Foods CO-OP, said, "I think with that quick experience, we are able to take on this longer project with the construction. Customers will already know the ways to get in from previous times, so I think we're going to be fine this time. I think there will be a decrease for a little bit but we just need to make it work."
While East Boulevard North is closed for the next three weeks, drivers need to find an alternative route.
