STURGIS, S.D. (KOTA TV) - If you roll into next year’s Sturgis Rally on a Monday, you might call yourself fashionably late. That’s because the biker party is now officially 10 days.
Without fanfare, the city of Sturgis set the official dates for the 2017 rally as Friday, Aug. 4 through Sunday, Aug. 13.
Adding three days to the 77th rally is not really a big deal … bikers begin showing up well before any official start day; and the city already closes Main Street to four-wheeled traffic the Friday before the previous start day.
It also won’t have much effect on many of the venues, including the Sturgis Buffalo Chip.
A release Friday from the Chip stated that they’ve always had a 10-day rally schedule. “The Largest Music Festival in Motorcycling has been promoted as a ten-day rally for the last 27 years. It is unnecessary for event attendees to change their plans this year,” the release stated.
