After the storm, blood donations needed

RAPID CITY S.D. (KOTA TV) - Nearly ten donation centers from across South Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado had to close their doors and cancel 25 blood drives, totaling a loss of 850 prospective units of blood that were never collected.

Vitalant is always in the need of blood donations but the need can be especially high after events like the blizzard.

Hospitals need at lease 3,000 unites of blood each week and Vitalant is trying to make up for lost time.

"We are accepting all blood types. All donation types, with a critical need for platelet donations and O type donations," Brittany Siegel donor recruitment manager for Vitalant.

If you would like to donate you can schedule an appointment by going to vitalant.org or calling 605-646-2620. They also take walk-ins.
