Block classes coming to BHSU

SPEARFISH, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Black Hills State University’s Rapid City campus will offer seven block schedule courses starting in the spring of 2018. The courses will run for 18 consecutive business days from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1-4 p.m.

The fast-paced schedule will allow students to concentrate on one course at a time rather than take multiple courses all semester. Four block classes is equivalent to taking a semester’s worth of credits.

“The block schedule adds a flexible, convenient, and time sensitive component which will enable more students to obtain the higher education they desire,” said Francey McOwen-Standart, sociology instructor at BHSU’s Rapid City campus.

Courses available for the spring semester include: Biology Survey, Fundamentals of Speech, Intro to Sociology, College Algebra, Composition I, Composition II and General Psychology. Students taking the new block courses can apply for a scholarship providing $100 per block course with a limit of $400 per semester.
