RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - KOTA's annual Bagel in the Street had its most successful year ever, raising more than $31,000 on Friday morning.
As apart of the KOTA Care and Share Food Drive, one day a year KOTA asks the community to bring any generous donation they can and in return, get a white chocolate chip bagel from Black Hills Bagel, coffee from Dark Canyon Coffee or a Pepsi product.
This year, the event itself raised $15,516.12. An anonymous donor pledged to match what we raised dollar for dollar up to $15,000. So, that brings the total to $31,033.24.
All of the proceeds go directly to Church Response, which will then help feed many hungry families this winter.
Chief meteorologist Mike Modrick helps put this event on every year and he says he does it because he doesn't want to see any child go hungry.
"I have met some of the families who need this kind of service and you don't want to see a 10-year-old boy and know he might not have dinner tonight," said Modrick. "I don't want him to not have dinner tonight. And I am willing to stand out here in the cold for a few hours to help that little boy."
A big thank you to all who came out on and participated!
