Young American Idol hopeful looks to bring back old country music
17-year-old Will Vanderheiden wants to change country music, or rather bring back old country and the style of story-telling.
“Where the songs have a meaning and they have a story behind them and not just about a party, I want to have a true story,” said Vanderheiden.
Some of the stories he writes are about his brother, who at only 20-years-old, passed away. His songs tell of getting through this tragedy.
“How I got through it and how life can be really hard at times, and if you keep your head up you can get over situations and music has helped me do that.”
Will auditioned in Omaha and was turned down there, and came to Rapid City. While Will did not pass onto the next round here, it doesn't sound like that will stop him from trying.
He has plans to try out for The Voice, next.
