RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - The future of the military is looking to space and Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson says the proposal is coming soon.
President Donald Trump pushed for a new military branch back in June. For the past few months officials have been working on a proposal that could move the project along. If everything goes as planned it could be presented to congress early next year.
"The president of the United States has given us guidance to develop a proposal that will go forward with his budget in February, to establish a Space Force and that will go forward to congress in February," says Wilson.
When asked if Ellsworth Air Force base could take part in the Space Force in some way she said other bases in the country would be more likely to take part.
"We have our Space Forces in the Air Force in Colorado, in California, in Florida, a few other places, but I think it's more likely that those places will continue to be an important part of the force," she says.
