RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Fall River County has switched emergency alert systems, moving from CodeRED to Everbridge for countywide notifications.

The new system will be used to share urgent information including wildfire evacuations, severe weather, flooding, road closures and other public safety alerts.

Residents can sign up through a link on the county’s website and choose how they want to receive alerts, including phone calls, texts or email. Users can also select specific locations, such as homes, businesses or other properties, to receive targeted updates.

County officials say some CodeRED contact information was transferred for residents who registered before March 2025, but they are still encouraged to re-register directly with Everbridge since transferred accounts can’t be updated and some settings did not carry over.

Those who signed up after March 2025 were not included in the transfer and will need to register again.

Officials also note that the CodeRED mobile app is no longer functional and should be deleted. Residents are encouraged to use the “Public Safety by Everbridge” app instead, which is available in app stores and used by agencies including the City of Hot Springs Police Department.

More information is available on the Fall River County website.
