HONOLULU (KHNL/Gray News) - A man testified that his father confessed to trying to kill his wife during a FaceTime call.

Emile Konig, who was 19 when his stepmother was killed, testified as a key prosecution witness against his father, Gerhardt Konig.

Last March, Emile Konig was living with his father, stepmother and two half-siblings in Hawaii.

Emile Konig referred to his father as the defendant and said he had not spoken to his father since the day Gerhardt Konig allegedly confessed to trying to kill his wife, Arielle Konig.

Emile Konig testified that after the alleged attack, Gerhardt Konig called him on FaceTime and he saw blood on his father’s shirt.

Emile Konig said his father told him the blood on his shirt was from Arielle Konig’s head.

Emile Konig said his father told him that he would not be making it back to Maui and that his wife had been cheating on him, so he tried to kill her.

Emile Konig described emotional moments when his father wanted to harm himself.

“During that call, the next plan that he said was to jump off the cliff,” he said.

Emile Konig told Deputy Prosecutor Joel Garner that he told his father not to do it.

In opening statements, Gerhardt Konig’s defense attorney said Arielle Konig attacked first, but Emile Konig said his father did not say anything to him about self-defense.

The trial is expected to last until mid-April.
