The fire, called the Calumet Fire, is currently 40% contained with 3 acres burned. Crews are currently mopping up and an incident commander on-scene expects the fire to be at 100% containment by 4 p.m. today. Heat and drought are the aggravating factors that will cause the fire to linger until then.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

KEYSTONE, S.D. (KOTA) - A wildland fire was reported overnight off of U.S. Highway 16 on Calumet Road north of Keystone just after 1:15 am.

According to fire officials, the highly visible fire has burned five to six acres of rough terrain.

Pennington County Fire Administrator Jerome Harvey says no structures are currently at risk and he expects crews will be performing mop-up on the fire throughout the day.

People are advised to stay away from the area to allow fire crews to battle these blazes. Officials also caution there is no need to panic.

U.S. Forest Service officials are in jurisdiction of the fire at this time.
