RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Students at Black Hills State University are expected to take at-home COVID-19 tests prior to returning to campus for the spring semester.

The South Dakota Department of Health is sponsoring the free tests for every student before their arrival back on campus on January 11th.

Corinne Hansen, Director of University Relations at BHSU, said that the aim is to have a COVID-free campus once the semester starts.

“We know that testing is really a key way to slow down the spread of the virus,” Hansen said. “so it’s important for students to take that test if they have that opportunity.”

Black Hills State will also have the opportunity for a mass-testing event on campus during the first day of the semester.
