RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - The suspect investigated for a stabbing turned homicide has been taken into custody, police report Friday.

The 29-year-old Barry Allman of Box Elder has been taken into custody by officers of the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. He has been transported to Rapid City and faces a warrant for First Degree Murder.

At around 4:50 a.m. Aug. 6, police were dispatched to the 1700 block of N. 7th St. for a report of a male lying in the grass. On arrival, police located the man and observed that he had an obvious stab wound to the chest. Life-saving measures were performed until a medical unit arrived. The man was transported to the hospital where he was later declared deceased.

Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Lance Baumgarten of Rapid City.

Allman was believed to have a firearm while police were searching for him and had a U.S. Marshall’s warrant for his arrest.

Additionally, 41-year-old Thalia Rice has been placed under arrest for Accessory to First Degree Murder after driving Allman away from the scene of the homicide.

This was Rapid City’s fourth homicide in 2020. That number doubled in the past week as two homicides occurred four days apart. One happened Monday on Custer Street.
