Spearfish Canyon Fall Colors 2014

The weekend of Sept. 20-21 saw the fall colors in Spearfish Canyon at about 75 percent; with a lot of autumn gold, some reds and yellows. Last year, the Oct. 4 blizzard ruined the colors before they peaked. While this year will be different, you can still see damage from that storm.

Weather Forecast

Eric Gardner, Good Morning KOTA Territory/Noon News Meteorologist

Eric Gardner joined the KOTA news team in December of 2002 as a morning and noon meteorologist and news anchor. After a stint as the nightside main anchor, Eric returns to sunrise as the Good Morning KOTA Territory meteorologist.

A strong warm front will move northeast across KOTA Territory today, bringing much milder air. This milder pattern will last through Saturday night, then a strong arctic cold front will move through, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures for Sunday. Some light snow or flurries could accompany the arrival of the arctic air.

The cold air moves east Monday, but another rather chilly airmass may invade KOTA Territory by midweek. But overall, it appears a much quieter, and eventually milder weather pattern may be developing for us as we head through the first half of December.
