Spearfish Canyon Fall Colors 2014

The weekend of Sept. 20-21 saw the fall colors in Spearfish Canyon at about 75 percent; with a lot of autumn gold, some reds and yellows. Last year, the Oct. 4 blizzard ruined the colors before they peaked. While this year will be different, you can still see damage from that storm.

Weather Forecast

Thursday is inversion day, meaning temperatures will be cooler on the plains, warmer in the higher Black Hills. We could also see some fog around the base of the Hills this morning.

An even warmer pattern will develop by the end of the week, and we could melt some snow and ice!

Colder air returns Sunday into next week, but at this time, although a few flurries will be possible, we don't see a major winter storm Thanksgiving week that would cause travel problems in KOTA Territory.

Yet another front will cool us off Sunday and Monday.
