The South Dakota Department of Health and SDSU Extension Services are sponsoring implementation of Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program titled Better Choices, Better Health® South Dakota. The program is designed to help people gain self-confidence in their ability to manage their symptoms related to chronic health conditions. Better Choices, Better Health® South Dakota is an interactive workshop offered once a week for 6 weeks. Each session is 2 ½ hours long. The workshop is not disease specific. Chronic conditions include arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, breathing problems, and any other condition that makes managing daily life challenging. The course is also designed for caregivers of people with a chronic health condition. Better Choices, Better Health® SD is appropriate for anyone looking for ways to cope with chronic conditions, and to learn how to better care for themselves or a loved one. The emphasis of the workshops’ curriculum is to help people to learn skills and tools to better manage their lives when living with a chronic health condition.
