Oglala Sioux tribal president survives impeachment hearing

Suspended Oglala Sioux tribal president Bryan Brewer survived an impeachment hearing at the Prairie Wind casino in Pine Ridge on Thursday. Council members voted on two forms of action regarding his future.

In the first vote, the council members voted against removing Brewer all together. In a second vote, the council decided against suspension for 30 days without pay.

He was charged with mishandling a $5,000 check given to the tribe as a donation and acting without the consent of the tribe on two other matters. Brewer said the allegations were baseless and his accusers are just playing politics.

"Too bad when we have disagreements it becomes personal and we have to spend our time with charges being filed,” Brewer said.
