South Dakota store managers aren't worried about Wyoming lottery

With Wyoming launching its own lottery soon, we asked KOTA Territory store managers how it will affect South Dakota sales.

At Mason's 5th Avenue in Belle Fourche, the lottery makes up a large portion of sales, with many customers coming from out of state. Kimberlie Selle, assistant manager, says lottery sales tend to be impulse buys when the jackpot is large. Though they rely on customers from neighboring states they are hopeful that the Wyoming lottery won't affect their sales.

"I think it's going to increase sales in the lottery, because people are going to cross over state lines to buy in another state and in their state, just to increase their chances," says Selle.

Selle also said that in addition to their Wyoming buyers they also get many from North Dakota.
