Annexation may lead to Big Sky street repairs

Bids were submitted Tuesday to begin much-needed street repairs in the Big Sky subdivision in Rapid Valley. But the money and reconstruction is only meant for those roads within city limits.

Laura DeRuyter, a resident in the Big Sky subdivision that is out of city limits, says the street in front of her home looks like a danger zone. "People have told us that it's like a bomb dropped on our road and that about sums it up," said DeRuyter.
DeRuyter says she has lived in her home for years and her street wasn't always like that. "They were fine when we first moved in but then the storms came in and weather and things slowly deteriorated."

Terry Wolterstorff, Rapid City's public works director, says they are considering getting streets annexed into Rapid City limits. "If you live out in the Big Sky area the streets are really in major disrepair most of them are out of city limits," said Wolterstorff.

Wolterstorff says they will have a meeting with residents. "We're going to talk to them about the procedures necessary that we have to repairs those roads," said Wolterstorff. "Part of that will be annexation that needs to occur."
