Northern Hills Drug Court holds graduation ceremony

A different kind of graduation ceremony took place at the Meade County Courthouse Tuesday.

Seven participants, the 43rd thru 50th graduates of the Northern Hills Drug Court Program, joined family and friends to celebrate recovery and sobriety.

People in the program go through four levels of treatment, including weekly visits to court, all while under intense supervision by probation officers. They graduate by following the rules, completing treatment and developing the skills to stay sober.

“The goal of the program is to get them into living a normal life: What the rest of us do as a course of action,” said Mary Wood-Fossen, executive director of Compass Point, an organization that provides prevention, intervention and treatment services.

The Northern Hills Drug Court started in 2007. Graduations like this occur every three to four months.
