Delay in trial of Rapid City man accused of infant abuse

The defense attorney for Austin Ehnes, 26, needs more time to obtain and work with a medical expert. That and scheduling conflicts will result in a two-month delay in the trial of the man charged with aggravated battery of an infant.

Ehnes is accused of hitting the 15-month-old boy, seriously injuring him.

Although the child has been released from the hospital, he continues to receive ongoing care from the Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colo. As a result of the delay, Pennington County Seventh Circuit Judge Robert Gusinsky will request another court order for the child's medical records as he receives treatment.

Ehnes currently remains free on a $100,000 bond.

The next status hearing is set for Sept. 2.
