PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Officials are crediting staff members from a youth club and lifeguards for saving a 5-year-old boy from drowning at the Pierre city pool.
The incident happened Friday afternoon during an outing by the Boys and Girls Club. The boy was pulled out of the pool by staff members from the club after he was spotted floating on his stomach and failed to respond to calls.
KCCR radio reports that one of the lifeguards administered CPR and rescue breathing techniques before an ambulance arrived.
Officials say the boy was released after one night in the hospital and is doing well.
