BASIN, Wyo. (AP) - Police in Basin say an officer shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at him.
The officer had gone to a residence just after 2 p.m. Sunday to investigate a traffic complaint. A police department release says when the officer arrived, a 55-year-old man pointed a firearm at him.
The officer then fatally shot the man.
Basin police say the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating. Police Chief Chris Kampbell says the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave and that is standard procedure in such cases.
Police declined to identify either the officer or man shot.
Basin is a north-central Wyoming town of about 1,300. The town has four police officers, including the police chief.
