Rapid City church invites LGBT community members to service

One KOTA Territory church is looking to bridge the gap between religion and the gay community. The Well congregation in Rapid City welcomed LGBT community members to speak at their service Sunday morning.

Speakers shared stories of their experiences and battle many time with religion and being gay.

Church leaders say they hoped the congregation could  learn and grow from hearing these speakers. "Typically in Christianity, we take our message outward to evangelize others. We happen to hold to esteem that believes we need the voice of the other to better understand ourselves and so we are inviting a community in to evangelize us," said Ryan Schendzielos.

For Cori McCreery, a transgender woman, says she is sharing her story so get some answers herself. "As someone who struggles with finding religion, my goal here today is to try to find some answers to some questions about organized religion that I have," said McCreery.
Those who attended the service prayed together and listened to music.
