Families try different outdoor activities in Rapid City

In Rapid City, kids and parents had a chance to try out different outdoor activities Saturday.

The third annual 'Outdoor University' was put on by South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks' Outdoor Campus West. Kids got to sample various activities like fishing, archery and canoeing.

It was a free event and there were some activities designed for younger and older kids and adults as well. Chad Tussing, director of Outdoor Campus West, says this helps get people interested in the outdoors.

"Even in Rapid we do have some folks that have never gone out and fished, never gone out and hunted or hiked, so we can provide that experience for them," said Tussing. "And hopefully that will create some interest and spark some passion for going out and doing it again."

Tussing says there are smaller events and classes held throughout the year, but Outdoor University is the biggest.
