Boy crashes car into Keystone tourist attraction

A gaping hole is left at a popular tourist attraction Wednesday, where a boy crashed his parents’ car.

According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, a 12-year-old boy was sitting in a running car when he put the car into drive and crashed into the window of the Rushmore Tramway’s gift shop in Keystone. “A lot of people were screaming and running,” said Wyatt Probst.

People were standing on the sidewalk when the incident happened at 11:33 a.m., but fortunately there has only been one reported injury – an eight-year-old girl was cut with some glass. She is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Cameron Fullerton, general manager of Rushmore Tramway, says he was in his office when he heard the windows shatter. “Pretty much saw the end of a big SUV in the front of my gift shop,” said Fullerton. “Actually one of my employees had left for the morning, so it was quite a relief to see a vehicle and nothing worse.”

Fullerton says the damage will cost about $2,000.

There aren’t any plans to press charges.
