Rapid City housing sales increase by 25 percent

By Barrett Phillips

Dave Jones, a real estate associate with Prudential Kahler Realtors, said homes are selling as quickly as they are being listed; only staying on the market for a few days. This June, housing sales were up 25 percent from June 2013, going from 158 homes sold to 198.

June, according to Jones, is the best month he can remember after 10 years in the real estate business. For years, Rapid City has been stuck at a population of around 50,000 people but lately the city and economy has grown.

"I think people have realized the quality of life we've got here," Jones said. "What a great place this is to live, work, and raise a family. If you look at all the new businesses, restaurants, things like that coming into the market and economy that tells you how good rapid really is," he explained.

Jones said the future looks good, as long as interest rates stay low the housing industry will thrive.
