Rapid City police make arrest in weekend killing

Police have made an arrest in the death of a Rapid City Man found Sunday morning behind the Cold Stone Creamery on West Main Street. Michael Hand, 18 of Rapid City, was arrested for the murder of Myron Rock, 47.

About 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Hand and another male went into Walgreens on Mountain View Road and told an employee to call 911. After speaking with both men, police located Rock in the alley behind Cold Stone Creamery. Rock appeared to have been badly beaten.

Hand and the other male subject were interviewed by detectives. Hand was then arrested for second degree murder. Alcohol appears to be a factor in this homicide.

Rock’s official cause of death is pending an autopsy, which is scheduled for later Monday.

The Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate.
