Art in the making at Main Street Square

It's art in the making. A massive sculpture project in downtown Rapid City is closer to being complete.

Japanese sculptor Masayuki Nagase unveiled the 5 newest granite sculptures at Main Street square on Sunday.

This brings the number of finished pieces to nine. The newest additions are part of the Badlands theme the square is using on the south side.

Nagase said he wanted the community to have a strong connection with the project.

"That's the key to a successful project. I’ve had workshops with people in the community at many different locations at the beginning of this project last winter. So that's how I started. And I really want people involved in this project."

Nagase says the $2 mil project is expected to take four more years to finish.
