Remember - fireworks are banned in Rapid City

Officers will be out in full force this weekend, focused not only on drunk driving enforcement but also fireworks calls.

Rapid City police say anything that goes boom and shoots up in the air is illegal in the city limits.

More officers will be working to specifically address the fireworks issues. They say in the past there have been many calls for service for people illegally shooting fireworks, so they are taking a proactive approach this year.

Last year, on the Fourth of July alone, RCPD received 147 calls related to fireworks.

If you are caught with fireworks, officers can confiscate them and write you a ticket, up to $500.
